Corbet Lough, Banbridge

Banbridge district with it’s rivers and many lakes is an angler’s paradise, and Corbet Lough 5.5 km from Banbridge, in particular has much to offer both anglers and tourists.

Corbet Lough is the home of the Banbridge Angling Club, who manage the facility on behalf of Banbridge Council.  In 2005, Banbridge Council spent £200k to update the facilities. £140k came from The Mourne Heritage Trust fund, Banbridge Angling Club provided £10k and the Council contributed approximately £50k towards the face-lift.

New facilities include:
a boathouse and jetty
six lough angling boats and one wheelchair-friendly boat (the first of its kind in N Ireland)
3 fishing shore stands suitable for disabled anglers
3 angling platforms
and 2 timber shelters
a fishing lodge with toilets

FOR THE ANGLER

Corbet Lough is a spinning/fly fishing only lough with rainbow trout and a smaller amount of brown trout available.

Early season flys include Viva, Montana Nymph, Ace of Spades.  Onward to Buzzer.  From June include Sedge Patterns and Hoopers.  A good year round fly is Hare Ear Nymph.

Fishing is strictly controlled.  There is a 3 fish per day per angler limit and a minimum takeable size of 12 inches.  Licence and permit are required, and day tickets are available from the nearby Angler’s Rest pub and restaurant.
